This is how Matthew and I feel about you all...

Some Like it Hip-Hop

Be there...or...well, just miss out really!

Up to date...

“It is forbidden to walk on the grass. It is not forbidden to fly over the grass.”

- Augusto Boal

This video clip was so inspiring (Thank you Molly and Nicky).
How was this received in the session?

You need to ensure you complete the tasks here! The project has been so much fun that we can’t forget that you are being marked too.

Task 1:

You need to have researched at least 2 theatre/dance companies that do community work. There are several on the assignment brief that you were given on the first day.

  • Post links to any of their work.
  • Find articles on them - READ them and ANNOTATE them!
  • Write notes on the company.
  • What is their ethos?
  • What are their aim and objectives?
Remember that you blog is a way of presenting all of your work. You can scan in notes/annotated articles.

Task 2:

Roles and responsibilities

We will be speaking about this in more detail tomorrow.

Your role on out project is exactly the same, you are all WORKSHOP FACILITATORS

I want you to write a job description for this role. What do you do?

To be able to do this you will need to do some initial research on roles and responsibilities for other companies. I want you to find out all of the roles in a community theatre/dance company.

For example:
  • Company manager
  • Director
  • Marketing
  • Finance etc...
What other roles are there? This will vary from company to company.

This link will be VERY useful:

Remember to keep reflecting and keep working hard!

I am so inspired by the work that has been happening in our sessions - moving, creative and special work!

Thank you! x

Workshop two

Today was an interesting day there were some new faces and some people had not returned. It was interesting that we had spoken about this and how this could have impacted on the dynamics of the group. I was really surprised by the work that happened and really proud of the relationships that are starting to form within the group. There is such potential, And I have high hopes for the final performance.

You need to reflect on Monday's workshop by going through the tasks game by game and say what you learnt, or what people in the group did by participating in the activities. Some of these activities were:

Atoms: people walk around space and number scores out an object. People in each group have to create your project in a time frame and freeze at the end. What did you gain from doing this activity? What does it allow the participants to do? Where you surprised by the responses?

Sharks: Islands are set out on the floor using a A3 paper. Everybody moves around the room, one person's a shark,  whenever the word SHARK is shouted out, you have to run to the island. If anybody is left in the water they can be tagged and become a shark. As the game proceeds islands are removed and it is the participants job to support each other on the islands. What did this game do for the group? Where you surprised by the responses?

Caterpillar race: in trams you all have a chair, these chairs start off by being stacked up at one end of the room. The aim of the game is to get everybody from and every chair from one end of the room to the other, the only thing is, nobody's feet can touch the floor.  Why was he such an excellent team game? Explain the responses, what did you get from it?

We then played an improvisation game. Every single person wrote down a location and an opening line to a scene. These were picked randomly and in pairs  people improvised the scene. We watched these back and evaluated. Explain some of the improvisations. Were you surprised by the responses, what is starting to happen in our group?

Workshop 1 - 7th June

Well done on an excellent session.

You should have two reflections by Monday. Please make sure you are keeping up to date with your work.

For the session on Friday you should make sure that you cut-and-paste the below information or type your own. You should make sure you reflect on the game that you led and all the games you supported. You should make some notes about what you discovered about the group that we are working with. Were you surprised by the engagement of the group, what things are you concerned about, what things do you hope that we can do over the next few weeks.

What do you want the project to be? What strengths are you bringing to the project?

aims of the project - on paper and in the envelopes...write one, two or three things you hope
to get out of the project here. We will read them on the 12th July and see if we have met those aims.

Chat briefly about the Arts Award.

Tour of the school and meet back outside at 12.45/1pm.

Why did we do these games?
How did the games encourage group work?
How did the client group respond to the games?
If you led the game what did you learn about how you had to do this?
If you are supporting the games what did
you learn about your role as a supporter?

You should also make some notes of ideas that you have for the final performance to be performed on 12th July.

In addition to the reflections on the lessons you should also be researching two community group. There are some examples of community groups in the pack that you were given last week, you should make sure that you research the history of the community group, their aims and objectives,  ethos. All of these things you are marked on as part of this assignment.

In your packs last week you were given an article about Augusto Boal, you need to ensure that you've annotated this and referenced it on your blog, you could do this by taking a photograph and uploading, or scanning this to your blog.

Remember you need to do extra reading, you need to do action planning, those people going above and beyond and immersing themselves in community theatre are those that are going to get distinctions.

Great stimulus...how does this make you feel?

Workshop 1 3rd June

Welcome to community term...

We hope that you had a great first day, we know it has been full on. What is crucial is you reflect on the sessions and blog it!

What was your initial reaction to working on the Turnaround Centre - 4th Wall Project?

Today you should be reflecting on the initial conversation with Iram and Yvonne.

Q- What did you get from the discussion?

Q- What questions do you still have?

Maybe look up the Turnaround Centre and post a link to their website.

Workshop with Deanna

What activities did you do? What worked and why?
What skills did you develop or refresh in this season?
How will this help you over the next 6 weeks?

Working with a theme - how might this be useful in a workshop?
